India dominated Day 1 of the second Test against West Indies in Kingston after a stellar performance by the bowlers. After winning the toss, West Indies skipper Jason Holder decided to bat and that backfired when Ishant Sharma struck early. From the other end Mohammed Shami also struck early. With both pacers picking wickets, West Indies were clearly in trouble. Blackwood and Marlon Samuels then stabilised the innings till Lunch. R Ashwin joined the wicket takers list after Lunch. Once he picked up his first wicket, he continued to do so. In the end, Ashwin took 5 wickets as West Indies were bowled out for 196.

Reply to the score, India began on a positive note as Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul played their natural game. Dhawan missed out on a big score as he was dismissed after a good catch by Darren Bravo at covers. Rahul continued to impress and remained unbeaten on 75. Cheteshwar Pujara was unbeaten on 18 at the end of day’s play. India ended that day at 126/1, trailing West Indies by 70 runs.
